The drawing tools for Every Artist:
Drawing Media... What's your drawing tool of choice?
Drawing is a main skill for nearly every visual art form (even watercolor!),
and it's important to be familiar with the tools of drawing media.
Here are some of my preferences:
- pencils... drawing pencils are nice but prefer regular pencils or mechanical, to me they erase easier.
- outline markers... i like fine tip sharpie or black gel pens.
- highlighting pens... these are hard to find in edmonton but i like the way they do light highlighting.. Utrecht Design Marker, Double Ended Brush / Chisel Tips.
- colored markers... fine tip markers are good for adding alittle color without having to color in the whole picture. Colored sharpies are nice but only good on mixed media paper or on canvas.
- erasers... kneaded rubber erasers are amazing, they mold to your hand and last the longest.
- paint... i use acrylic paint, i prefer it, any brand is good, i use dollar store brand the most.
- watercolor paint/pencils...prismacolor is the best but its expensive, i find that michaels craft store brand 'art loft' works just as good and is over 50% cheaper
- canvases... xscargo has good canvases that are priced from $6-$15 or michaels is good when they have there bogo events, i use ones from the dollar store and there pretty good.
- Mixed media paper... i like these brands... art loft(paper is thinner), strathmore mixed media paper is my favorite because its a little thicker and you can use paint on it as well and the paper wont go wavy after.
